Black Coffee DJ: Campaign Commission

Black Coffee is a Grammy Award-winning South African DJ, producer and global cultural figure, widely regarded as one of the most influential artists in contemporary electronic music

I was approached by Black Coffee’s team to create an original artwork to support the visual campaign for his Las Vegas residency at Hakkasan. The commissioned piece became a key element of the residency’s marketing, appearing across large-scale billboards throughout the city, outside the venue and across promotional materials.

Concept

When creating this artwork, I was thinking about frequency and the unique ability DJs have to evoke emotion and connection through sound. Music has the power to shift energy, transport us and bring people together across cultures and geographies, and I wanted to capture that sense of movement and resonance within the composition.

The blue energy stream represents this exchange of energy; an invisible current that flows between artist and audience. The elements are arranged in an infinity formation as a nod to the boundless nature of creativity and Black Coffee’s enduring ability to connect, inspire and elevate through his music.

Colour was an important part of the visual language. I wanted the palette to radiate warmth whilst reflecting both the spirit of his music and a deeper energetic symbolism. Purple speaks to universal consciousness and our connection to something greater than ourselves; orange embodies creative expression; yellow represents personal power and identity; and blue reflects communication and self-expression. Together, these colours create a vibrancy that I hope can be felt as much as it is seen.

This commission was an opportunity to translate sound into form and to create a work that celebrates music as a force that transcends boundaries, connecting people through shared experience.

The collaboration brought my artistic language into dialogue with music, nightlife and global culture, translating my visual practice into a public-facing campaign experienced by thousands of visitors.
